@ChurchillClub: The Gamification of Everything

@ChurchillClub: The Gamification of Everything

By Caroline Japic, Vice President, Marketing

Here are three facts:

1.       Rajat Paharia is widely recognized as the father of gamification.

2.       The Churchill Club is Silicon Valley’s premier business and technology forum, known for pointed and predictive conversation.

3.       On Tuesday, April 30, Rajat will join fellow visionaries in a Churchill Group panel conversation titled “The Gamification of Everything.”

The panel will explore how applying game mechanics to non-game environments can help companies shape the behaviors of critical audiences in ways that strengthen brands, increase revenues and improve loyalty.  Rajat will be joined by Patrick Salyer, CEO, Gigya, and Jim Whitehead, chair of the Computer Science Dept. UC Santa Cruz, and founder and president of the Society for the Advancement of the Science of Digital Games, in the discussion moderated by David Fetherstonhaugh, behavioral economist at IDEO.

The Churchill Group cast a wide net for this topic – we’re talking, after all, about gamifying everything – because gamification techniques already are used virtually everywhere, from programs aimed at improving people’s health to campaigns designed to encourage employees to adopt new enterprise platforms.  And gamification is just getting started. Bing Gordon of Kleiner Perkins predicted last year that gamification would see explosive growth within five years. And Gartner predicted that by 2015, 40 percent of Fortune 1000 companies would use gamification as the primary mechanism to transform business operations.

Attendees can expect Rajat to describe how innovative companies are leveraging big data and the tenets of motivational science to employ gamification techniques that result in greater participation, sharing, collaboration, learning and achievement.  These dynamics are detailed in Rajat’s forthcoming book from McGraw-Hill: Loyalty 3.0: How to Revolutionize Customer and Employee Engagement with Big Data and Gamification

On April 30, those of you located in Silicon Valley can get a sneak peek at some of these concepts and some real-world examples that demonstrate them in action. The Churchill Club’s Breakfast Club: “The Gamification of Everything” kicks off at 8 a.m. Tuesday (registration and buffet at 7:30 ) at Accenture, 50 West San Fernando St., 12th Floor, San Jose, CA 95113.
